New CAIDAS member: Damien Garreau
02.04.2024We are pleased to welcome a new member to CAIDAS. Damien Garreau has been appointed to the Professorship for Theory of Machine Learning as of 2 April 2024.
Damien Garreau is a mathematician by training, working on the theory of machine learning. At the moment, his research focuses on the theoretical foundations of explainable AI. Can we show that existing methodology makes sense? Or, on the contrary, can we find some realistic failure cases?
Damien studied mathematics in École Normale Supérieure (Paris). After graduating in 2012, he briefly worked in the private sector before starting a PhD at Inria (Paris) on the topic of "Kernel change-point detection." He defended in 2017, and then joined the Max-Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (Tübingen) as a postdoctoral researcher for two years. In 2019, he joined Université Côte d'Azur (Nice) where he was an associate professor until he joined the University of Würzburg.
We're very much looking forward to working with him and wish a good start at CAIDAS!
