Topping out ceremony for new CAIDAS building
23.01.2023The JMU celebrated the topping out ceremony of their new institute for artificial intelligence on January 23rd. The ceremony was attended by state minister for science and Markus Blume, the president of the JMU Paul Pauli, Würzburg's mayor Christian Schuchardt, and CAIDAS spokesperson Andreas Hotho. The construction is expected to be completed by this summer.
The new CAIDAS building, located on the Campus Hubland Nord, is being built using a standardised room program, simplified procedures, and prefabricated components. It will feature modern research spaces, seminar rooms, offices for professors and staff, and flexible meeting rooms on a total area of 2,100 square meters. The total cost of the project is 13.3 million euros and the completion is planned for this summer. The project is a part of the High-Tech Agenda Bayern and the institute is designed to be sustainable and committed to climate protection with a flexible modular design.
The topping out ceremony was an important milestone in the construction process and was attended by the state minister for science, Markus Blume, who emphasized the importance of investing in technology and innovation for the future. The president of the university, Paul Pauli, also highlighted the significance of the new institute in providing a new home for modern research and innovation. Andreas Hotho, the speaker of the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (CAIDAS) also pointed out the importance of the institute in fostering the growth and development of the field of artificial intelligence and data science. Würzburg's mayor Christian Schuchardt hopes that the newly gained expertise will also give rise to commercially viable ideas, e.g. in new start-ups.
