New CAIDAS member: Christophe Zimmer

We are pleased to welcome a new member to CAIDAS. Christophe Zimmer joins CAIDAS as head of the Machine Biophotonics lab.

Christophe Zimmer is a biophysicist and computational biologist developing imaging methods for translational biology. Christophe was trained as a physicist and engineer at Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, France. He obtained a PhD in astrophysics from the University Paris 7, then did postdoctoral research in space physics at University of California, Los Angeles (USA). Thereafter, he joined the Pasteur Institute in Paris, first for a second postdoc, then as staff scientist and research director. In 2008, he created the Imaging and Modeling Unit, an interdisciplinary team developing experimental and computational imaging methods for biology, and was director of the Computational Biology department from mid- 2020 to mid-2023. In 2024, he joined University of Würzburg as professor and holds the Machine Biophotonics chair in the Rudolf Virchow Zentrum for integrative and translational bioimaging.
